mucci61,

According to Michael Holm's site (Luftwaffe 1939-45), the following Luftwaffe bomber unit operated from Montdidier during 1941 and flew the He 111H.

I./KG 1 - 6.40 to 1.41

Not much I'm afraid

The he-111 desktop model was sent home during ww2 from my uncle who was in 1 st US army div.serving in eur. theater.he was kia apr. 17 ,1945 so not much info on where he got it.our love for aircraft must be a family trait.I found this web site and was very exited.I would think it might have belonged to either Obstlt. fritz Kohler (feb 41-sept42)or maj. Rudolf Loytued (jun 40 - feb41).i found this info on this website,would this have been on the base commanders desk? thanks paul

Paul,

I posted a question regarding your model on the Twelve O'Clock High site.

This was to specifically ask about the two names that you quoted and also if anyone had any insights regarding the model.

Please see this thread on TOCH - http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=19623, there you will find career details for the two possibles. However, as the writer indicates, no obvious connection to Montdidier.

Paul,

KG 1 is a Luftwaffe Bomber unit roughly equivalent to a USAAF Bomber Wing.

KG = Kampfgeschwader

kampf = Battle or Bomber

Geschwader = Wing

A KG usually consisted of 3 Gruppes (USAAF Groups) each Gruppe had 3 or 4 Staffeln (Squadrons).

In my earlier post I indicated that I./KG 1 was based at Montdidier during 1940 to Jan 1941. This would be the first group (Gruppe designations were in Roman Characters e.g. I./KG 1; II./KG 1 etc)

For a list of bases for KG 1 have a look at Michael Holm's magnificent The Luftwaffe 1939-45 web site.

Paul,

Please refer over to the post on the TOCH forum as a member there has posted a photo of a similar model to yours. This was from an old e-bay auction.

Once again the link is - http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=19623
