Could anyone tell me what the combat radius was for the Ju88D-1 and/or D-5. I can find a figure of 3250 km (~2000 miles) but is this ferry range or combat radius.

Andy,

Checked my Squadron/Signal books on the Ju 88 and found nothing on the range of either the D-1 or the D-5.

In the Crowood (Ron Mackay) book on the Ju 88, the D-1 is attributed a range of 5000 km but Mackay implies that this is achieved including any additional underwing tankage.
Mackay also indicates that the D-1 was powered by Jumo 211Js as was the D-5, Mackay then says that the difference between the D-1 and the D-5 was the VDM propellers used on the D-5.

Green (WoftTR) indicates that the first D1s were delivered to (F) 122 with Jumo 211B engines.

I'll see what else I can find.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the info, is the 5000 km figure given combat radius of ferry range (I presume the latter?)

Andy,

Unfortunately, Mackay does not define whether it is either of these.

Andy,

Have been checking other publications and have a Polish profile that gives the range of the D-1 as 2950 Km and that of the D-5 as 3100 Km.

Hi Andy,

I think that the last couple of figures that you quote are probably combat radii. Maybe Dave could shed some light on the matter.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards
