"New" book from Barry Ketley (Flight Recorder/Crecy)

See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luftwaffe-Emblems-1939-1945-Barry-Ketley/dp/0955426839/ref=sr_1_36?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1310163571&sr=1-36

Suspect that this is a rehash of the Hikoki imprint from a few years ago - could have sworn that this was attributed to Ketley and Mark Rolfe.....

Andy

If that is the case and it is a reprint of the Hikoki imprint, is it still a book worth having? Does it cover abzeichen right down to Staffel level? and cover some of the very low level unit badges?

If it does then I will certainly be in for a copy however, I still see that as yet there appears to be no publication date yet released.

Regards Richard.

It is a new version. Fortunately the continued changes to the publishing date is due to the author carrying out more research. The new book will have over a 1000 emblems. See LEMB http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12901 for latest update

Richard,

The original Book by Ketley and Rolfe was/is worth having.

The "new" book - well, you pays your money and takes your chance.

It should be better that the original as it surely must take into account more recent discoveries in this area and have these overlaid on the original publication. However, will reserve judgment on whether to buy until I can see a copy in The Aviation Bookshop.

I understood that the delay was due to an illness that Barry Ketley had been suffering from.

Still intrigued by the fact that Mark Rolfe does not appear in the credits that I have seen for this book.

Also have the "Luftwaffe Fledglings" book also published by Hikoki - this has also appeared in other guises - a booklet with early issues of SAMI, the Hikoki publication and another version publishes as part of the Classic Colours series by Classic/Ian Allan. must say that this book was really good.

Gents, thank you for your comments on the upcoming 'Luftwaffe Emblems 1939-1945', for that price it is certainly worth taking a chance, and I have pre-ordered a copy from Amazon. Hopefully, it will be the benchmark work on this topic.

Andy, as an aside, with regards to 'Fledgling Eagles' you mentioned published in the Luftwaffe Colours series, does this book cover the Erganzungs Staffeln at all?

Regards Richard.

Richard,

The Hikoki version does not cover these.

Neither does the Luftwaffe Colours remake.

My copy arrived via the postie this morning and although I have only had time for a quick flick through the book, first impressions are very good indeed.

Sensibly priced, packed with corroborating images, the Luftwaffe emblems are very well presented and I recommend this book to all Luftwaffe enthusiasts.

Regards Richard.

Richard,

Caved in today and purchased this.

Expect it to be delivered in the next few days.

This is the first "Luftwaffe" orientated book that I have bought in at least six months my last was a second hand copy of Der Seenotdienst der Deutchen Luftwaffe - Volkmar Kühn - purchased at the Aviation Bookshop.

Richard,

It arrived today.

Interesting layout.

Not sure what to say regarding the increase in pages which seem to be offset by the smaller page size.

The jury is out on this one.

Ideally I would of liked the emblems to be larger, contained within a larger hard backed book however, for the price I paid from Amazon, taking into consideration the photographic content to boot, I am quite satisfied with the result.

Regards Richard.
