Rosch, on page 18 of Luftwaffe Codes, Markings and Units records one aircraft B1+AD an Arado 96B but records the unit as unknown.

Does anyone have any clues as to the unit involved?

I could very well be wrong, but I seem to recall that B1 belonged to the Transport Staffel of I. Fliegerkorps - sometimes called Transport Squadron "Don".

Pretty sure I've seen a pic somewhere of a Ju 52 with this on the tail, but until I find it again I can't be definate.

regards

Adam

Edit: Just looked on M. Holme's site and it has the following for B1: Restkommando/St.G.1, Verbindungsstaffel 53, Störkampfgruppe 1, Transportstaffel I. Fliegerkorps

Adam,

Doh!

Completely forgot to look at Michael Holm's site will check there again on some of the other items that I have nothing on.

Incidentally, will be posting these items to the unit code section of the wiki.

No problems. Have been working on the D and E sections already, although a few entries need further info.

The interesting this was that the Ar 96B was not identified as being part of any of the above stated units. Therefore, it may have been operated by another unidentified unit OR by one of the units that you list.

Indeed, as a transport or liason aircraft it is a somewhat weird choice - especially on the Russian front - while its lack of effective ordinance would seem to discount the Storkampgruppe. If I had to put money on it, I'd go the Verbindungsstaffel. That said, StG 1 might have had a use for it in allowing old hands, returned wounded, etc time for re-familiarisation flights given its advanced trainer status.

Would be perhaps useful if we knew the relative existence dates of the above units and at what time Rosch has his Ar 95..

Unfortunately, with Rosch theere are no extra pieces of information - hence the question here.
