Hi,
Gustav Adolf Awater was my father's best friend since beginnings of '50 till his death. I think he was the same person mentioned in a shutdown of Oct. 22, 1939 (HE 111) near Scotland. Are you interested with more details? Please let me know.
Thank you for answering.

Lili,

First, welcome to the forum.

Yes, I would me most interested in any additional information that you may have regarding Oblt. Awater.

I have the following additional information from Shores' "Fledgling Eagles" which you may be interested in:-

"22/10/1939

At 1435 Red section of 603 Sqdn was scrambled to intercept a raider reported over a convoy off St. Abbs Head.Flt.Lt Gifford, Plt.Off Robertson and Plt Off Morton soon saw a lone He 111 four miles offshore and gave chase as it headed out to sea; this was a reconnaissance aircraft of 1(F)./122 commanded by Oblt. Gustav-Adolf Awater. They caught it and after an exchange of fire it turned back towards the coast, apparantly to try and force land, but came down in the sea seven miles out. Three members of the crew were seen to get into a dinghy ( the fourth had been killed), whereupon the Spitfires guided the destroyer Gurkha to pick them up."

I have recently received a photo of Gustav Adolf Awater from Lilli.

"I just found a picture of Gustav Adolf Awater. Probably the only one I have. You can see him in his Quebecair summer uniform (in beige). The winter one was navy...
Did you receive any news about him from other members of the forum? I would be interested. Many thanks for the information you sent me. "
