Hi everybody!
I'm doing a research about Ju 88 A-4s of 6.(F)/166 at Bergamo, during 1944.
Were those a/c equipped with FuG 200 Hohentweil search radar?
During June and July they used the three digits code 5M+_ of Wekusta 26; I would like to get information about the following aircraft, all lost in that period:
5M+H
5M+F
5M+D
5M+G
5M+R.
It would be useful to get photos of them or of any other a/c of the unit.
Thanks in advance.
Fabrizio

Fabrizio,

Firstly - welcome to the forum....

Go to
http://www.luftwaffedata.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Aufkl._Gr._122_Jun_1944 and http://www.luftwaffedata.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Aufkl._Gr._122_Jul_1944 there you will find some information.

If you can obtain a copy of "Air War Italy" by Nick Beale, Ferdinando D'Amico and Gabriele Valentini (Airlife 1996) you will obtain more information relating to both 122s operations in Italy and Westa 26.

Westa 26 operated under the control of Stab./122 for a period prior to June 1944, formally becoming 6./122 during that month. It had been operating as a recce unit for much of this time rather than as, its designation suggested, a weather recce unit. However, it continued to operate aircraft with the 5M code for a while after that.

Yes, Westa 26 (6./122) did operate aircraft with Fug 200 - I believe that there are some photos and a side view in Air War Italy. This book is well worth a read as it describes the Luftwaffe operations within the context of the conflict within Italy at that time.

Hope that the above is of some help.

Guys

Without wishing to be pertinent, but I have never ever heard of a unit designated (F)/166. So far it has not been listed in any of the books I have, so what is this? New unit? Mistake??

If unit really existed, what do we know more about it??

Cheers
Stig
