Hi guys,

something else to add to the diary page. All concern 3./122 unless otherwise stated:

9 Sep 1941: one aircraft reported position 110km west of Whitby around 1510. noted the 'target' (?) was cloudless then flew to 'target 2'. In answer to query from ground station, stated that no convoy had been sighted. Landed by 2018.

12 Sep 1941: F6+BL reported position at 1005hrs as 15W3514 (Carlisle), and at 1050 as 15W1428 (Hull). The aircraft landed at 1241.

14 Sep 1941: a single aircraft off east coast from Tyne to Humber and down East Anglian Coast. Landed 1030.
(1./122 - recce of railways in Brjansk - Orel region)

16 Sep 1941: a single aircraft on sea recce east of Cromer around 1745 hours.

17 Sep 1941: a single aircraft operated from Montdidier - The Hague - 270° for 100km - Southend area - Montdidier. This aircraft landed at Montdidier at 1920 hours.

18 Sep 1941: F6+FL and F6+OL on ASR to the east coast, between Cromer and Spurn Point. These aircraft may have joined the attack made by KGr 606 on convoy FN 20 which was spotted earlier in the day by 4U+FL of 3.(F)/123. Both aircraft landed by 2100 hours.

To save a new topic, the Fi 156 that was damaged 14.11.40 (as noted in the diary, but no details given), was CM+DV (WNr 4429). Damage was listed as 50%

The Fw 44 was WNr 104 (no Skz) and it too was damaged 50%

Must have been a doozy of a storm!

Again, save starting a new thread for the following:

From ULTRA

Operation off Dutch coast to Dogger by 3./122 cancelled on 17.6 owing to aircraft between 2 and 4 East, 52-53 North. Further operations scrubbed due to weather.

night of 20-21.6.44 intention for 3./122 to overfly London between 2230-2300hours. In addition a security recce of Newcastle - Dover at first light on the morning of 21.6

KTB Gend.d.Lw.b.Ob.d.M O.Qu.1

23.1.40

Küstenfliegergruppe 806 (He 111) to transfer to Utersen where 1./122 is based (at least according to the KTB). The intention is ground personnel to help in the construction of barracks as the airfield is considered large enough for the two units.

What's interesting is according to Holmes' site, 1./122 was never known to be based there, so perhaps Utersen was a transitional base for 1./122 or something.

Cheers

Adam,

Glad to see that you made it back to Oz in one piece then.

Spoke to Wadman over the weekend, at least I think I did as there was the constant baying of hounds over the phone........

Many thanks for the additional info will weave it into the text shortly.

Adam,

However, I have the following relating to 1(F)./122 and Utersen

Nov 1939 - In addition another 1(F)./122 He 111H was damaged on landing at Fp.Uetersen, 50%

6 Dec 1939 1(F)./122 He 111 2709 Crashed shortly after take-off from Ütersen – Lt H. Schierholz Uffz. W. Kunze, Uffz. M. Strobschein and Ogfr. G. Vogt killed.

3 Jan 1940 - A 1(F)./122 He 111H-2 crashed at Fp.Uetersen due to engine trouble sustaining 50% damage.

Mar 1940: 1(F)./122 is said to have transferred from Fp.Uetersen to Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel, but the exact date is not known
