Gentlemen

have two Junkers 88 tags one a Junkers nummer tag and the other the BMW tag from the radial engine. Am curious as the A/C crashed in December of 1942 and is recorded as a Ju 88D-6 with the staffel in that month. Does anyone have some information regarding this higher altitude Junkers version used by the O.b.d.L. ??

many thanks 8)

Erich ~

Erich,

Don't know if this helps - from Aero Detail 20 - Ju 88.

Erich,

Also had a look in "On Special Missions" by Smith, Creek and Petrick and Thomas and Ketley's KG 200 book but could not find reference to the D-6.

Erich,

Looking on page 188 of the Crowood book on the Ju 88 (written by Ron Mackay) the Ju 88D-6 is listed as a D-2 with BMW801Js this is at variance with that in the AeroDetail scan.

No mention in Green's Warplanes of the Third Reich or in Smith and Kay's German Aircraft of World War Two.

Also no mention in Nowarra's Die Ju 88 (Motorbuch Verlag 1987)

Have also checked Squadrons two In Action books on the Ju 88 and find no mention of the D-6 in either one.

May have to spend some time on the loss lists and see what I can find......

thanks again Andy was also looking at a couple of German references but "no joy" in this case. As you mention the D-6 was built in way too few numbers

much appreciated !
