Thanks guys,
However, I recently have been in contact with Dr Walter Carlien (rank not stated, but presumably a Hptm) of 1.(F)/100 who states in a letter:
"Nach dem Weggang des Staffelkapitäns Marquardt (zu einem Stab) kam Hauptmann Holert, der Februar 45 über Augsburg in der Startphase abgeschossen wurde. Dann kam für wenige [illegibile] Tage ein Hauptmann Cech, und dann ich."
My German is far from perfect, but as I understand the above it doesn't match Holert's stated replacement, nor does it seem to indicate Holert lived beyond 28.02.45.
Any help sorting out either my poor German or a logical sequence would be great
TIA
Adam
Translation:
"After StKpt. Marquardt transferred to a Stab, Hptm. Holert took over command who in february was shot down while starting from Augburg! For a few days a Hptm. Cech took over and then i took command!"
Well Dr Walter Carlien is probably telling this from memory? And he is wrong about the dates and names. That Hattan was in command is veryfied through the KTB Gen. d. Aufklärer dating from 01.01.45-26.03.45 and Hattans Flugbuch! Secondly a List of commanders of Aufklärer-units dated 06.03.45 still have Holert in command of 1(F)/100! In the KTB it is mentioned every time a unit shifts commander, and also losses of such! And Holert is not reported lost in the timeframe! There is no Hauptmann with the name Carlien in the list: Luftwaffenrangliste from 1945!! And a Hptm. Cech or a similar name is also not present! And in the Kriegsgräbernachweis there is no Hermann Holert listet as killed!
