Is there a year by year summary of losses incurred by Wekusta 1 whilst operating over the North Sea during the war? My particular interest is in losses directly attributal to attacks by Allied aircraft.

Kington and Selinger's book, Wekusta. states 'In late 1943, as a result of increasing losses due to RAF flighter attacks ......'.

So far as I can determine Wekusta 2 lost just four aircraft (plus one damaged) to RAF attacks

23.9.40
26.5.42 (damaged)
20.6.43
26.6.43
20.3.44

Consequently for the statement to have been valid Wekusta 1 must have suffered most.

Perhaps I should have included losses suffered by Wekusta 51 operating out of Toussus-le-Bruc to the souther Irish Sea as well.

Brian,

Hows your French?

I have a series of articles from Avions magazine relating to Wekusta 2.

Short of going through the loss returns I have nothing other than Kington and Seligers book covering wekusta 1.

Thank you Andy. I found the dates/losses I quoted previously in Pierre's history of Wekusta 2, and my hope was that there might be something similar for Wekustas 1 and 51.

I've done as you suggest for Wekusta 51 (unfortunately I didn't copy the pages for Wekusta 1 when I borrowed the book from the library), and, like Wekusta 2, there's no idication of anything out of the ordinary. Assuming the account is correct, the unit suffered just two losses to Allied aircraft after April 1943, on 9 September and 1 December, which is inconsistent with the statement about 'increasing losses'.

Most strange. Anyway, I'm off on my hols today so I'll forget all about it for a while.
