Hi all,

Does anyone have evidence (preferably photographic) of the post 7th March 1945 Luftflotte 4 ID marking (50cm Yellow cowl band and Yellow rudder) carried on reconnaissance aircraft.

Units in theatre at the time are:

Stab./FAGr. 4
Stab., 1., 2. and 3./NAGr.14

(plus some Hungarian and Croatian units)

The marking is commonly seen on Fw 190Fs (SG2 and 10), Hs 129s (SG9) and Bf 109s (JG52, 53 and NAGr 14 aircraft), although I also have photo evidence of it on an He 111 and a single Fw 189 (NAGr. 16) aircraft.

The marking was prescribed for type previously carrying the Yellow V underwing marking, so this should include Ju 88, Ju 188 and Hs 126.

Hopefully someone can help,

Thanks in advance,

Hi Chris,

I've got a number of photos of the aircraft from these units for the time frame that you mention so I'll look through them to see if any are carrying those markings.

Incidentally, these markings are often visible in published photos of several of the NAG elements in your list, probably that most frequently seen being Me 109G-10 of the 2./NAG 14, 5F+12.

Many thanks Dave.

You're, of course, right, I've seen NAG.14 aircraft carrying these marking.

My question, I suppose, really relates to less commonly photographed types. I'd be particularly interested to see a Ju 188 or an Hs 126 wearing the marking.

I'll look forward to your reply,

Thanks again,

Went though my photos of the a/c types/units in your list and yes, there are photos of some of the aircraft which can be clearly seen to be carrying these markings. These are to be included in my forthcoming book.

Similarly, through the good offices of Andy, I will be posting some extra, unpublished recce a/c photos from my collection (ones not included in my book) on his main site later this year.
