In Shore's "Fledgling Eagles" p237 Hptm Gunther Capito in mentioned as leading a flight of 12 Ju 52/3ms for the assault on Stavanger.
Does anyone know which unit he served with?

Hi Andy.
Don't know which unit Hptm Capito belonged to in 1940 but there was a Maj Günther Capito who was Gr.Kdr. (Act?) I/JG1 03Jan45-14Jan45, don't know if it was the same individual.

I would think a rare surname so maybe - but a bit of a leap from the Transportverbande to the Jagdverbande all the same.
Thanks for looking

It appears that Hartmann had a wingman called Gunther Capito at one time. This was the only wingman he lost - due to inexperience, Capito was an ex-bomber pilot. He survived.
Don't know if he is the same as yours or mine.......
