Many of the Malta victims of Canadian ace George Beurling have been identified by name, but I have never seen names attached to the claims he made over France.

Those claims include:

1 May, 1942. An FW-190 claimed over Calais

3 May, 1942. An FW-190 claimed over Cap Gris Nez.

24 Sept., 1943. An FW-190 (supposedly of J.G. 2). I don't have a location, other than France.

30 Dec., 1943. An FW-190 claimed near Compiegne, France. Allegedly from J.G. 26. Pilot baled out.

Does anyone know if any of these claims are confirmed in Luftwaffe records?

Don Caldwell's JG 26 War Diary Vol 2 has the following on page 191 - "Uffz. Heinz Wyrich was shot down, probably by a 412 Sqdn (RCAF) Spitfire which had ranged all the way to Compiegne, east of Paris."

According to the loss table on page 194 there is th efollowing information:-

Uffz. Heinz Wyrich WIA 5./JG26 Fw 190A-5 Wk Nr 1175 White 16 - 2km S of Romaine.

I suspect finding anything for the claims in May 1942 could be difficult. But I'm hoping there might be someone out there with knowledge of J.G. 2 day-to-day activities. I have read on a web site about Beurling that his 24 Sept., 1943 claim involved an FW from that unit, but no pilot name was given.
